Big History is the attempt to understand, in a unified and interdisciplinary way, the history of the Cosmos, Earth, Life and Humanity. It’s an ambitious project that seeks to link the knowledge available in many different scholarly disciplines, and was a flagship program for Macquarie University. With funding and collaboration from the likes of Bill Gates and a widely viewed Ted Talk by the creator of Big History, Professor David Christian, this was a perfect story to illustrate the great work happening at Macquarie.
In order to make this wide-ranging topic palatable for a mass audience, we created a short film that was capable of being played forwards or backwards as an online video or outdoor activation piece. This simple mechanic gave viewers the ability to scrobble back and forth through the history of time, while a voiceover explained the basic premise of the course.
